If you decide to transfer a domain from one registrar to another, you will need to pass through several safety procedures. One of them is obtaining a special EPP authorization code from the current registrar company – on the condition that you are the registrant, since the code is sent to the owner's email and no one else can get it. You need to give this code to the new registrar company, or else they will not be able to start the domain transfer process. The EPP authorization codes are case-sensitive and may include numbers or special characters such as commas or dots, which can be easily misentered, so make sure you copy & paste the right code. As an additional security measure, the transfer code for a domain may be reset regularly. Some domain registrars refer to this code as a domain secret, an Auth key or a domain password as well.
