If you want to direct a domain that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, the best way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is pointed to. In this way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be forwarded to the website which you have created, but it'll also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record set up for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.
CNAME Records in Shared Hosting
Setting up a CNAME record using our Linux shared hosting service is extremely easy. Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in just a few basic steps. You will find a video tutorial within the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with many options - if you build a company website on our end, for example, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to create a site by using a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain, so all your visitors will be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it takes only a few clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled through our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will see a section devoted to the DNS records of the domain names and subdomains hosted within the account. To create a CNAME record, you will only have to pick the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), input where the latter will be redirected to and save the modification. The new record is going to be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is just as simple and takes a click.
